For my birthday, my wife got me a new camera, the Sony NEX-C3.
I wasn’t that much into photography before this, viewing the large DSLRs from Canon, Nikon and Sony as too bulky and too expensive a gear for me to bring around to take snapshots during my trips. Although I didn’t want to lug around a DSLR, I did want to take pretty pictures, and I maintain a believe that DLSRs are not the only way to take pretty pictures. So, for the longest time, the camera I’ve been using is a Samsung point and shoot that has limited manual control over aperture and shutter, which served me well for the most part.
Two things convinced me I needed a better camera.
The first is that my wife started performing her gu-zheng more profesionally and I needed a way to document her performances so it would be fit to print, instead of just being snapshots.
The second was in my most recent trip to Egypt, I found the Samsung to be inadequate in low light performance, causing me to either miss the shots I wanted or lose out on the detail for the ones I did take.
When the mirrorless camera movement came about, it was very exciting because now the performance of a DSLR could come in a more ‘pocketable’ size.
After much research, the Sony NEX-C3 proved to be the best value for money.
With this blog, I’m going to document my journey into photography with my NEX-C3 and hopefully show progress in my photography skills.
